The Check is in the Mail!

Good news! Our Gift (donation) for the Sewing machine has finally reached the magic total of $270.00. The Ladies of the HVQG reached the goal, before the end of the year! Yeah, hip, hip, hooray!!!

This sewing machine will lift a woman out of poverty. It will go to a poverty-stricken woman or girl in a country like Zambia, Ghana, or Ecuador, the sewing machine our guild has provided can be a doorway to a better life. This gift will show a single mother, orphaned teen, or HIV-positive widow how she can make a decent living as a seamstress to support herself and her family.

This gift is provided through World Vision, they will provide a teacher to show the woman that has been selected how to us the machine and how to operate her business. If anyone is interested in other gift donations they can go to World Vision and select the gift catalog to see the other options.

This baby is headed to Quiltfest!

Every year the Utah Quilt Guild sells pink fat quarters for $5.00 and if you buy one you are asked to make a block with the fabric. The blocks are gathered, packaged together, pieced together, and a quilt is made to be auctioned off at Quiltfest. The proceeds from the event go to the Susan G Comen Cancer Foundation.

Last year we decided as a guild to make our own little quilt for Quiltfest using the $5 fat quarters. We made flip flops and it turned out so cute! This flip flop quilt is headed to Quiltfest to be auctioned off this week. Please see http://www.utahquiltguild.org/ to see specific info about Quiltfest in Layton, Sept 22-26 2009.

Thanks to all the ladies that made flip flop blocks last year to be put into this darling quilt. Thanks to KayeDawn, our guild president last year, coordinator of the project, and piecer, Sherron for the darling borders, Natalia for the beautiful machine quilting, and Kathleen for the binding.

Kazuko made this darling quilt for a baby boy

Super cute quilt by Carol

Barbara made this quilt for this year's Quiltfest. It is an ugly fabric quilt or something silly like that. People get to vote on all the ugly fabric quilts at Quiltfest held in Layton at the end of this month. Check out the Quiltfest info at www.utahquiltguild.org

This was made by Carol and it is something like a pioneer quilt. They made it in the Midway Quilt Guild and Paulette designed it. Let me know if I am WRONG!

Another darling quilt by Carol
Carol has spent the summer with us and she will be leaving again in October. Thanks for sharing with us Carol! See you again next summer!

Sherron's, she used her 10 year guild anniversary President's block to make this one!
