Beth taught us how to do Hawaiian applique'.
We got to work on making our own pillows. It was fun get to make something. Beth says the hardest part is cutting it out. She is right. It takes a little time, but the out come is great. what makes this form of applique' different from any other is how it is cut out.

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **
| First, from a navy print, ...stars work well... cut one 9-7/8" half square triangle (from a 9-7/8" square cut in half once on the diagonal)... |
| Next, cut thirteen 3-7/8" half square triangles from a variety of tan/cream prints. It's okay to have some repeats within a block, but the more different prints used, the merrier the block! Cut ten 3-7/8" half square triangles from a variety of red prints... |
| Sew pairs of red and tan half square triangles to make a total of ten half squares. Use scant 1/4" seams, and press seams to the darker side. Trim these back to measure 3-1/2" if needed... |
| Next, piece the block! Sew four vertical rows of half squares, using the extra tan half square triangles at the top of the three shortest rows. Sew these vertical rows together using a scant 1/4" seam, and then sew on the blue corner triangle to complete the block! ...on to Page 2! |
This quilt is four blocks by five in straight sets, with a simple border of pieced 3-1/2" tan squares. You can fly this Old Glory with Pride!
Here's an Interesting Idea...How about combining the Glory in Scraps with the Pink Ribbon, made yellow instead? Click Here!
*Idea from Joan! Add border strips to the side and this would make a great place mat or Banner!
Happy Quilting All!

I would have loved the Hawaiian applique instructions. Hopefully the next meeting I will be able to go even for a portion of the meeting.
