September Meeting.

It was so much fun to get together and sew and the last meeting.  I know I did not get much done because of all the fun visiting.  It is nice to get to visit with everyone.

We did the ugly fabric exchange.  If anyone want to still do it, you can.  Just bring your fabric to next months meeting.  Out of the fabric we are making Doll Quilts.  In December we will bring back the doll quilts and donate them to toys for tots or some other orginization for them to give away as Christmas gifts.  There really was not any ugly fabric.  My pictures all got mixed up when I was loading them so sorry.

Quilts for the Officers

This just came in from Barb our area director.

Today I counted and bagged all of the quilts for charity for the police officers. We are hoping to deliver them on Tuesday.

Please let your members know that we more than made our quota, in fact we made 33 more than our areas requested.  So, I gave two extra to each of the Heber City and Park City police departments.

The state guild is in dire need of more quilts to help in other areas where the quota is far short, so we are donating the extras to the Utah Quilt Guild to be given where needed.

Some of the members went way above what we asked for and made multiple quilts.  Wow!

I am sure that some child, somewhere, will benefit from our generosity and time and  that the quilt will give them comfort in some way.

The Utah State Guild Guild also said to say thank you many times over!  Please know that I also send my many thanks to everyone.  We have some fabulous members in our area who care about others.

Way to go Guild.  All of your help and charity helped us get to our numbers plus.  Some little boy or girl is going to be so lucky to get one of your special quilts.

August guild

Sorry I did not get pictures because I was gone.  Next month's BOM is a silly chicken.  It is on www.quiltercache.com   background is off white or chicken wire.  It is a paper piecing.  Beth has copies you can pick up if you give her a call 435-503-1997.

Since there were people at guild we are going to do the ugly fabric exchange again in September.  Bring a fat quarter to yard of fabric you don't like and we will swap.  Also we are going to do a group sew night.  Guild will start at 6:00pm and go until 10:00pm.  Bring any project you want to sew and sew with friends.  This would be a good time to work on your design challenge that is due at the October guild.  Also bring a treat to share.

We hope to see everyone there.  Yeah schools back in maybe life can slow down.

July- Hawaiian Applique'

Beth taught us how to do Hawaiian applique'.

 We got to work on making our own pillows.  It was fun get to make something.  Beth says the hardest part is cutting it out.  She is right.  It takes a little time, but the out come is great.  what makes this form of applique' different from any other is how it is cut out.

Sashiko (Japanese Embroidery)- got it at the Home machine quilt show.  It comes stamped and then you stitch it.

Please bring a fabric that you do not like and we will exchange fabrics.  Size must be any where from a Fat Quarter(smallest) to Yard (largest).

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

First, from a navy print, ...stars work well... cut one 9-7/8" half square triangle (from a 9-7/8" square cut in half once on the diagonal)...

Next, cut thirteen 3-7/8" half square triangles from a variety of tan/cream prints. It's okay to have some repeats within a block, but the more different prints used, the merrier the block! Cut ten 3-7/8" half square triangles from a variety of red prints...

Sew pairs of red and tan half square triangles to make a total of ten half squares. Use scant 1/4" seams, and press seams to the darker side. Trim these back to measure 3-1/2" if needed...

Next, piece the block! Sew  four vertical rows of half squares, using the extra tan half square triangles at the top of the three shortest rows. Sew these vertical rows together using a scant 1/4" seam, and then sew on the blue corner triangle to complete the block! ...on to Page 2!

Glory in Scraps - Page 2

This quilt is four blocks by five in straight sets, with a simple border of pieced 3-1/2" tan squares. You can fly this Old Glory with Pride!
